Does anyone know what the guidance is on providing meals to learners who are claiming Vulnerable Bursary? Would the learners be eligible for FME, or would we need to ‘top-up’ the Vulnerable pot through Discretionary?

We are looking at changing how we provide FME, but want to ensure that we still have a small provision of food available for those who desperately need it.

    Thank you in advance!

    Hi Martin,

Thanks for this. I’m still a little confused by the ambiguity of the statement in the guidance –

‘Institutions can give additional support to students eligible for a free meal from the 16 to 19 Bursary Fund, if the institution assesses they meet the criteria for bursary for vulnerable groups or the discretionary bursary.’

We were unsure which pot of funding (Discretionary or FME) we would use to provide food as additional support for Vulnerable learners and what marker we would put into the ILR once ascertained.
