    Hello everyone,

We have a learner on a degree apprenticeship who has just gone on a break due to maternity. She’s planning on returning to her employer in Jan 2019, however due to our regulations she won’t be able to restart her degree until October 2019. Do we leave her as on a break in learning until Oct 2019, or does the apprenticeship restart once she is back doing on the job training with her employer?

    Thank you 🙂

I think this is a specific problem for degree apprenticeships where the provider is unable to provide role on role off provision.
The Apprentice could restart the work-based element with her employer on her return from the BIL but this may only be possible if she has the available mentoring and guidance from the HE provider for her to continue at that date.
This is a situation that can only be resolved between the Provider and Apprentice and you will need to establish when the learner is able to restart for funding purposes as the purpose of a BIL is to stop funding where the learner is not engaged.

Thanks Martin. I think we might need to look at the degree regulations – it’s very much in own power to be more flexible.
