Can you help solve a debate please?

Example – Learner has level 3 English and Maths. They are doing an apprenticeship. Do they still need to do a functional skills assessment? There is evidence of the maths and English. The evidence is stored under prior learning.

    Thanks

    Ellen

    Hi Ellen

It doesn’t matter what level English and Maths they hold, basic skills assessment should take place as part of your wider initial assessment process.

Many thanks for the reply Sue.

In addition, if you had a degree qualified apprentice – with evidence of the degree – would you still get them to do a basic skills assessment (BKSB for example) as part of the initial assessment? The apprenticeship is the right one for them in terms of careers aspirations.

    Hi Ellen

We use BKSB too and absolutely I would get them to do the assessment. In fact, we wouldn’t proceed with submitting employer contracts or completing sign up without them.

    Regards,

    Sue
